RESIDENCY PROGRAM AT NIMEA KAYA

An Extended Immersion in the Peruvian Amazon

There are times in life when stepping away from the familiar is exactly what we need. The Nimea Kaya Residency Program offers an opportunity to leave behind the pace, responsibilities, and distractions of everyday life and spend an extended period immersed in the natural beauty and profound energy of the Peruvian Amazon. Rather than coming only for a traditional retreat, residents are invited to make Nimea Kaya their home for a period of two, three weeks, one month or longer—allowing the experience to unfold naturally and at a deeper pace.

Residents may choose between a simple private guest cabin or, for those seeking a longer-term home base, a fully equipped resident house on the land. Surrounded by rainforest, medicinal plants, and the sounds of the jungle, this is a place to slow down, reconnect with nature, create space for reflection, and explore what becomes possible when life is lived at a different rhythm. Food is included during the stay, with access to prepare your food in your own house or in the communal kitchen.

The Residency Program also offers a unique opportunity to spend more meaningful time learning about and experiencing Shipibo culture and traditions. Nimea Kaya has worked with Shipibo Curanderos and Healers for over 18 years, honoring a lineage of plant knowledge, ceremonial practice, song, and connection to the natural world.

During their residency, guests can have opportunities to learn more closely about the Shipibo way of relating to the forest, medicinal plants, traditional healing practices, art, music, and the cultural traditions that have been carried through generations.

For those who are called to work with Ayahuasca, residents may also have the opportunity to participate in traditional ceremonies with Shipibo Maestros during the periods between scheduled retreats. These ceremonies would take place within the established Nimea Kaya framework, with appropriate preparation, screening, support, and integration. Nimea Kaya’s existing ceremonial work is guided by Shipibo Healers with decades of experience. The Center emphasizes that Ayahuasca work is a serious spiritual and healing practice rather than a recreational experience.

The longer residency format creates something different from a condensed retreat: time to experience ceremony, return to stillness, integrate what arises, and allow the teachings to unfold without immediately having to return to ordinary life.

Life between ceremonies is an important part of the Residency Program. Residents can spend their days walking the land, resting in their private space, reading, writing, practicing meditation or yoga, connecting with other residents, exploring the surrounding jungle, learning about medicinal plants, or simply being present with nature. The intention is not to fill every moment with activities, but to create the spaciousness necessary for each person to discover what they need during their time away.

The Nimea Kaya Residency Program is ultimately an invitation to live the retreat rather than simply attend one. It is a chance to step outside the patterns of everyday life and spend meaningful time in a supportive community, surrounded by the Amazon rainforest and in relationship with the Shipibo traditions that have been central to Nimea Kaya since its founding.

Whether someone comes for two weeks or chooses to stay for several months, the residency offers the space to slow down, listen more deeply, reconnect with the natural world, and allow a new relationship with oneself and one’s life to emerge.
