Selva Spirit Association

Our Peruvian Non-profit, Selva Spirit Association, is an organization based in Pucallpa, Peru.  We are committed to the preservation of indigenous culture and have developed of a variety of programs that benefit the communities in our local area.  Selva Spirit has had the opportunity to implement several projects over the last 6 years.  Some of these include the reforestation efforts of land that was clear cut for cattle.  New clean water wells were installed in several villages including San Fransicsco, Sucre and La Florida.  Selva Spirit additionally sponsors the local “Intercultural Bilingual School” in Yarina Cocha where children from 13 different Amazonian tribes attend.  Lastly our Non-Profit is implementing a expansive health program with Water Purification Drops reaching several thousand people in the surrounding communities.

We have the opportunity to learn greatly from the knowledge and wisdom of indigenous peoples carry that have lived in harmony with nature. Throug a co-creative effort with the local communities and the Selva Spirit Association, we are blending effective means to overcome the problems that threaten the  the rain forest environment and health of indigenous peoples.  The solutions exist today, now is the time to apply them.

Our Community Based Programs

Instituto de Educación Superior Pedagógico Público “Bilingüe”

The Selva Spirit Association has had a unique privilege to sponsor the “ Intercultural Bilingual School“ located in Yarina Cocha. There are over three hundred students in attendance representing more than 12 Amazonian tribes along the Ucayali River. They are attending this school as an opportunity to study the Spanish language and integrate and share their heritage with visitors and the local community.

This school program has been receiving limited funds from local governmental institutions for many years. This has led to a degrading of the facility and it’s programs over the last twenty years of it’s existence. For the last four years, Selva Spirit Association has been upgrading sanitation systems, electrical access, and availability of clean water. We have also sponsored the creation of a Intercultural Museum where students from the 12 Amazonian tribes can exhibit their arts and history.

We wish to empower these students on all levels so that they can be leaders within their own communities with a strong foundation and knowledge base that creates independence. If you believe that there is a way for you to assist with this process, please offer your ideas, time, physical or monetary donations to the Selva Spirit Association. It is greatly appreciated.

Reforestation & Food Forest Initiative

Not to long ago there was an abundance of food available to those that lived in harmony with the Amazon. Limiting and competitive ideas introduced by western culture have created a separation from people and their land and basic needs. Food is at the core of everyone’s survival, and should not be withheld for monetary gain. The concept of creating a food cooperative free of charge will bring the mindset back to one of sharing with the community. The literal fruits of this labor will directly benefit the community free of charge and will empower the community by providing the ability to plant and maintain areas of land in our sanctuary for food production. The efforts of our non-profit are currently reforesting an 8 acre (4 hectare) parcel of land that had previously been cleared for cattle. We are planting a variety of fruit trees and sustainable timber trees such as Capirona, Cedar, Bolina, Pandishu, Coconuts, Avocado, Anona, Guava, Citrus, Cedar, Chacruna, Yuca and much more. The Selva Spirit Association has also recently purchased a 10 hectare parcel of land on Yarina Cocha Lake where a Camu Camu, Cacao & Banana farm is being newly cultivated by locals in the community who will directly benefit by the profits of their labor.

Bima Inuma Pezo, member of our Selva Spirit NGO, speaks of the importance of reforestation to help heal the Earth and humanity.

Community Health Program with Water Purification Drops

Our community health program, that provides water purification drops, is in many ways the most impactful program that we have implemented for the health of the local communities. These results have been nothing short of miraculous. People in the amazon region are more prone to water and food-born illnesses along with illnesses due to toxins be polluted into their environment by the onset of western modernization. People are turning to clinics and pharmacies for healing yet with little success. As individuals gain more optimal health, it allows them opportunities to spend working towards solutions to manage many of the other problems that are facing the people’s lively hood in the Amazon. The efforts of our non-profit have trained nurses and staff in distributing the water purification drops in several outlaying local communities. We have now reached over 5000 people in over 40 native communities with amazing results!
